Met Life Provides Painters

Volunteers from MetLife came over several days to paint at CHOM. We are almost done, except for new walls that need to be plastered. This area is so blessed with MetLife back in full force in Freeport!

Northwest Illinois Audubon Donates Panels

Check out the latest donation we received from the Northwest Illinois Audubon Society. These are the paneled “Our Changing Woodlands” murals from the old Oakdale Nature Center. Slight restoration will be done before the installation is complete.

Juliet Moderow, president of Northwest Illinois Audubon Society, commented “It was meant to educate others on the beauty of nature and we are glad that it still can do just that.”

New Permanent Location Coming Early 2019!

On October 27, CHOM received the keys for a new, permanent location at Lincoln Mall in Freeport. Way back in the day these locations were Stone’s Hallmark and Payless Shoes. Renovations have already begun, including cutting a hole in the wall to join the two store fronts for approximately 7,000 square feet of learning fun!

CHOM Receives Fall Grant from the Freeport Community Foundation

On October 25, 2018, at a Grant and Donor Reception at the Eagles Club, the Freeport Community Foundation Board of Directors awarded 15 grants totaling $83,015.76 to 14 area non-profit organizations that provide a variety of programs and services benefiting Northwestern Illinois. Grants were awarded from the Community Needs Fund, the Matthew A. Marvin Fund and the Craig Wilson Trust.

Children’s Hands-On Museum was awarded 2,832.80 to expand the Kids Build exhibit. This 270 s.f. exhibit will allow children to discover the building trades. Older children will use drafting tables, tools, shapes and more to design and finish the exterior and interior of a building. Younger children will have access to foam planks, bricks and other building “materials” for building. A grant for the drafting pieces was awarded in 2017.

Thanks again to the Freeport Community Foundation for their valuable support.
